From the moment you step through the tall entrance doors, the seamless integration of Forestis with its natural surroundings is immediately evident. Nestled amidst the peaks of the Italian Dolomites, just 19km from Brixen in South Tyrol, Forestis transcends the typical alpine retreat: it’s a masterclass in contemporary, tactile elegance.
Inside, the architecture is clean and minimalist, favouring a palette of neutral colours and high-quality, locally sourced materials. This perfect blend exudes a sense of quiet luxury. Developed from the remains of a historic sanatorium, the original facade, South Tyrolean wooden ceilings, and staircase were preserved and reshaped to include a new wing and three wood-sided towers housing spectacular suites. Remarkably, the reconstruction was a carbon-neutral project.
The Experience
I was captivated by the serene ambiance, the silence, and the scent of pine and wood from the moment I entered. The warm, personal welcome, complemented by fresh mountain water and locally produced apples, set the tone for my stay.
Walking through the tunnel to reach our 7th-floor Tower suite was an experience in itself, culminating in the breathtaking view of the Dolomites upon opening the door. In my many years of travelling and experiencing incredible hotels around the world, this was the first place that elicited a genuine emotional response. I fell in love with the surrounding nature while feeling as if I were floating in the sky in my own quiet, luxurious, and comfortable capsule.
