Mountain Boutique Hotels to Watch in 2024

The delicious pairing of stunning mountain views and a modern aesthetic boutique hotel is something I find myself craving every summer, usually either in Trentino or Switzerland. Whether you seek adventure or tranquility, these mountain retreats promise blissful serenity and awe-inspiring beauty.

Nestled amidst breathtaking landscapes, the mountain retreats of Trentino and Switzerland offer an unparalleled escape into nature's embrace. In Trentino, the Dolomites provide a stunning backdrop for charming alpine villages, serene lakes, and lush meadows, making it a haven for hikers, skiers, and relaxation seekers alike. Switzerland, with its iconic Swiss Alps, boasts world-renowned destinations such as Zermatt, St. Moritz, Adelboden and Interlaken. Here, pristine lakes, luxury resorts, and endless outdoor activities create an idyllic setting for rejuvenation.

So the question is, which one do we choose? I asked some insiders, here what they said.

Kulm Hotel, St. Moritz

Step inside the Kulm Hotel and walk through history. Founded by pioneers who launched the European winter holiday industry and inspired Olympic sports, this elite hotel is central to St. Moritz, one of the world’s most exclusive winter resorts.

High-end shops line the streets, and the hotel itself sits at 1,800m, overlooking Lake St. Moritz, which hosts prestigious winter events.

With 500km of hiking trails, 220km of cross-country ski tracks, and 350km of downhill runs, this is the hotel for the adventurers.

The Cambrian, Adelboden

Nestled deep in the valley of Adelboden, this trendy, upscale property evokes the charm of The Grand Budapest Hotel.

With interiors emphasising natural, local materials, the enclosed winter garden opens onto a sun deck perfect for an après-ski drink under the gentle winter sun.

The crisp modernity of the furniture harmoniously integrates with the powerful landscapes outside, while sleek furnishings, like the cool steel-curved Barcelona chairs in each guestroom, reflect the snow-covered ridges just beyond.

Adjacent to an outdoor terrace, The Cambrian’s spa offers a refreshing haven for bathers and steamers cooling off after a variety of treatments.

The Brecon, Adelboden

Sister hotel to The Cambrian, an insider told me that it feels like staying at a friend’s house.

The Brecon offers a homely atmosphere with warm hospitality and intuitively attentive service, ensuring guests feel relaxed and welcomed. With all food, beverages, and spa facilities included in the room rate, guests can fully immerse themselves in the experience without concern for extra costs.

I will be a guest of the Brecon in September so stay tuned for a my review!

Forestis, Dolomites

Perched in the serene Dolomites, Forestis Hotel epitomises refined elegance and natural harmony.

With architecture that seamlessly blends into the alpine landscape, this sanctuary offers an unparalleled retreat.

Guests are treated to exceptional service, locally sourced cuisine, and a holistic spa experience, all designed to foster a profound connection with nature.

Each suite features minimalist decor and panoramic views, ensuring a stay that is both luxurious and deeply rejuvenating.

A once in a lifetime experience that deserves its own blog post.

Parkhotel Mondschein, Bolzano

For those desiring a city escape just a short drive from hiking and skiing trails, this destination offers high ceilings adorned with stucco details, crystal light fixtures, and solid wood furniture.

Guests enjoy views of the hotel park, complete with loungers, a kiosk, and a charming rose garden, all under the light of the full moon.

Additionally, the hotel is a vibrant hub, always bustling with activity and stylish events. One to watch!
