Top fine dining restaurants in London

London, a city known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and diverse culinary scene, offers an array of dining experiences perfect for a memorable dinner date night.

Whether you’re seeking a cozy, intimate setting or a stylish, modern ambiance, the city has something for everyone.

As a lover of both Michelin-starred restaurants and hidden non-Michelin gems, I’ve curated a list where the ambiance and cuisine come together to create an unforgettable experience. Think dim lights, an inviting atmosphere, service that’s attentive but never intrusive, and some of the best food in the city.

Casa Fofò

Casa Fofò, nestled in the heart of Hackney, has quickly become one of my favourite discoveries of 2023. This intimate, unpretentious gem offers a dining experience that feels both special and relaxed. The décor is simple yet charming, with a cosy ambiance that makes you feel right at home. The food at Casa Fofò is nothing short of exceptional. Their tasting menu features a delightful array of modern European dishes, each meticulously crafted with seasonal ingredients. The flavours are vibrant and inventive, with every course offering something new and exciting. The filled pasta, in particular, is incredible. Mr. H and I had one of the most memorable meals we’ve experienced in quite a long time here.

Planque

Situated under two former railway arches in Haggerston, East London, Planque combines thoughtful design with Parisian vibes. The space features cobalt blue walls, modernist furniture, and an abundance of natural light, creating a striking yet cozy atmosphere. The open-plan layout, with polished concrete floors and exposed brickwork, exudes a fresh, modern vibe. With various intimate spaces, including a members-only lounge, a bar, and a 60-seat dining area, Planque offers a warm, inviting setting. Sitting at the kitchen bar is highly recommended for an immersive view of the lively open kitchen. The friendly and attentive service, combined with French modern cuisine, makes Planque the perfect spot for a romantic date night. A little slice of Paris in East London.

Lyle’s

Lyle’s, located in Shoreditch, London, has been a favourite of mine since it opened in 2014 (fun fact: my first dinner at Lyle’s was actually a Christmas gift from chef Marcus Wareing at the time!). The restaurant offers a minimalist and contemporary dining experience with an industrial-chic vibe. The space is bright and airy, featuring white walls, large windows, and simple wooden furniture, creating an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere. Known for its modern British cuisine, Lyle’s focuses on seasonal ingredients and inventive dishes. The menu changes often, showcasing expertly crafted plates that highlight the best of local produce. Having dined there countless times, I can attest to the consistent creativity and quality that make Lyle’s a sophisticated and memorable spot for any occasion.

Rogues

Rogues, a charming spot off a busy road in Hackney, exudes the warmth and friendliness of a true neighbourhood restaurant where everyone seems to know each other. The service is welcoming and friendly, making every visit feel like dining among friends. The tasting menu is a standout, bursting with bold and delightful flavours. Impressively, Rogues also caters exceptionally well to vegans. A place I will return times and times again.
